It could be the universally lousy support for the object tag which you use in place of the more usual image tag, but I'm not an expert with such things.
Well, not universal, since it works in Firefox, but that was my conclusion also. I will change it to img later, but it's a nuisance. Not as much of a nuisance as the fucking server config *feature* recently adopted by my hosts that means the server starts announcing an internal server error every time anything changes...
Be that as it may, it's still lousy given that different browsers support different features to differing degrees.
So it works now. And it was the object tag. Yipee!

And il Duce wants to know if you would come for lunch here or nearby on the weekend? I told him to email you himself since it's such a great imposition.
